Web Dashers Practice Mode

Web Dashers practice mode adds checkpoints so you can repeat part of a level. We entered it from the pause menu and tested placing a checkpoint with Z, deleting it with X and respawning after hitting a spike.

How to enter practice mode

Open a level, pause it and choose the green diamond button on the left. Two checkpoint controls appear at the bottom when play resumes.

The P key also toggled practice mode in our test. Turning it off removed the bottom controls. In the pause menu, the practice button changes to a crossed-out diamond while practice is active.

  1. Start a main level and press Esc to pause.
  2. Choose the green diamond on the left of the pause menu.
  3. To leave practice, pause and choose the crossed-out diamond, or press P during play.

Placing and removing checkpoints

On a desktop keyboard, Z placed a green diamond at our position. X removed the newest diamond while leaving the older one in place.

After hitting the first spike in Stereo Madness, the cube reappeared at the saved checkpoint and continued from there. We checked this at a slower speed using the Speedhack setting.

  1. Enter practice mode and move to a place you want to repeat.
  2. Press Z to place a checkpoint. Look for the green diamond.
  3. Continue playing. A death returns you to the saved point.
  4. Press X to remove the latest checkpoint if you need to go back further.

The help also shows place and delete buttons at the bottom. Our mouse clicks on those buttons did not reliably place checkpoints and sometimes made the cube jump. The keyboard steps above are the ones we verified; touch was not tested.

Auto-checkpoints

How To Play describes an auto-checkpoints feature and shows an Auto button. We could not find that button or a working switch in the practice screen we tested.

We therefore cannot give a verified way to enable automatic placement in this version. Use the manual Z and X controls for the workflow checked here.

Known limits of practice mode

The developers describe practice mode as an early version. Our check covered the opening of Stereo Madness, not every gamemode, portal or long level.

Normal Mode and Practice Mode have separate progress bars. Our practice best showed 1% while the normal bar remained at 0%.

Practice Music Sync appears under Options → Gameplay. The help says it uses normal-mode music during practice. We read the explanation but did not test the sound.

We have not verified checkpoint retention after leaving a level or refreshing the game. Do not rely on this page as a promise that practice checkpoints are permanently saved.
